1810 England, the height of the Napoleonic wars. It was thought that humans walked the path of enlightenment leaving monsters and dark things behind. However, those monsters and night stalkers merely hide in the darkness, as a young maid, Bernadette, soon finds out.
How do you guys feel about the various media that currently exist? Do you prefer pure literature over graphic novels and comics? How do you feel about fan fiction? I want to write a script for a Legend of Zelda story idea I had because I don't feel I have the words anymore to write it as a proper text, but I know I'll never have an artist to draw it. So many stories, so little time and money. ~Sigh
DO NOT EAT THE KITTY!! In fact don't eat any friends period.
@artificer urza: I don't read that many books I prefer graphic novels, comics & manga (etc) & I read a lot of fan manga (etc), so there ya go. :)
Well I'll read or watch anything as long as the story is good. I pretty much read both equally. And can't really say if I prefer one over the other. As for fanfic, I hate that stuff if your going to write you should use your own ideas not rearrange someone elses.
Also on this page I hope bern can control herself enough to not kill the Mia but still drink
i don't mind what media a story comes in as long as it's well told, but i think the best novels are the ones that do things with words no other form of media would be capable of, same with film and comics. i avoid fanfics in general, though.
I prefer graphic novels, comics or manga. I also like to read novels once in a while. I don´t like fanfiction because it´s like they didn´t get enough satisfaction with the official story that they take the ideas and twist it to their own satisfaction. That´s just my opinion, though.
@dunklen: I've written a couple of stories/fanfictions like that. But before I stopped writing to focus on Anathema, I wrote several original fanfiction stories where the basic concept of the world and caracters was taken and an original plot was written. Honestly, I could have changed the names and nobody would have realized it was fanfiction.
Novels here with comic and manga if the story is good and well told. Fanfic eh not as sure never have read much of such depends if its a twisting of the orignal or the world is only used as a base for the work I think and how well the story is told. *shruges* I take good story telling over all tho regardless of the way it is told.
I prefer novels and short stories as top picks, but I still have a soft spot for graphic novels and web comics.
On fanfiction, I think it really depends on the subject, the writer's talent and if they respect the source material. By respect my intent is when they have the characters actually act like they do in the source material, and they keep as much as possible to the world presented in the material. Sadly, many fan fic authors are just not that good in either one or both parts.
Fanfic that could be an origonal story:
I got to agree with you on how some authors are good enough that if they were to change the setting and character names, they could have a potentially fantastic story that I would love to read more of.
I hear you brother! Hard times and so many stories... We are on the same boat! I can draw my own stuff but I lack the background drawing skills and I'm a VERY poor writer... That's when collaborations are cool!
If you have a creative itch, and the only prescription is writing fanfiction, do it. There isn't a doctor in the world who would contradict this. :D
Besides, as long as one person enjoys the story, you've done a great job. ;)
@artificer urza: I was a fan fiction addict for a while, and they're pretty fun to read. I've also read very well-written ones. And yep, I love reading literature, as long as the genre's up my alley.
Most comics I read are manga and web comics, so when I read an American graphic novel, it felt pretty rushed. Apparently, fans of American comic books prefer condensed comics, as opposed to the more long-winding manga I'm used to.
