I guess after living several lifetimes, national lines seems foolish for Angela. Although it seems Bernadette doesn't care as much for her country as she does for her former lord.

@Myung: Borders and territory mean something different to Angela. As for Bernadette, she doesn't know the soldiers personally and the fact that her nation could lose and war itself something beyond her, in her mind. Wellesley dying? That's something she understands.
